Mystery disease kills over 50 in DR Congo after children ate bat and fell ill

The current outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which began on January 21, is characterized by symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle aches, headaches, and fatigue. At least 431 cases have been reported, with a fatality rate of 12.3 percent. The symptoms are similar to those associated with deadly viruses like Ebola, dengue, Marburg, and yellow fever. In most cases, death follows symptom onset within 48 hours.
