A violent attack occurred in Mannheim's Marktplatz square, where a bearded man armed with a knife attacked and wounded several people, including a policeman. According to various reports, the attacker stabbed at least one person in the leg and cut a police officer in the neck. The motive behind the attack is still unknown. The incident was captured on social media footage, which shows the assailant attacking blue-jacketed activists at a stand. One of the victims was identified as Michael Stürzenberger, a 59-year-old anti-Islam activist. Another report mentions that the attack was livestreamed on YouTube.
