Moscow Concert Hall Shooting: At least 40 Killed, Islamic State Claims Responsibility
On Friday, at least 40 people were killed and over 145 injured in a terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall, a popular concert venue located in the Moscow region. The attackers, wearing combat fatigues, entered the hall during a rock concert and opened fire, also reportedly throwing explosives that set the building on fire. Witnesses described a scene of chaos with people climbing over one another to escape.
The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack through its Amaq Agency. US intelligence had previously collected information in March indicating that Islamic State-Khorasan was planning an attack on Moscow. The exact number of assailants involved is not clear, but reports suggest at least five were present.
Russian authorities are currently investigating the incident and looking for the perpetrators. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described it as a "huge tragedy.
