More than 90 people killed after boat sinks off Mozambique coast

According to reports from Nampula's secretary of state, a boat tragedy occurred in which at least 90 people lost their lives. The boat, which was overcrowded and ill-suited for passenger travel, sank due to the heavy load. Most passengers were attempting to escape the mainland due to panic caused by disinformation regarding an ongoing cholera outbreak. Nampula province in Mozambique has recorded nearly 15,000 cases of cholera and 32 deaths since October. The boat was carrying approximately 130 passengers when it encountered difficulties on its way to an island in Nampula province. Despite rescue efforts, only five survivors have been found so far. The incident was exacerbated by misinformation about the cholera outbreak, leading passengers to flee the mainland in fear.
