More than 13,000 people evacuated from villages near an erupting volcano in the Philippines

Mount Kanlaon in the Philippines erupted, spewing ash and lava on the island of Negros, with an estimated 90,000 people affected. The eruption occurred at 3:03 pm local time, with ash plume and superhot streams of gas and debris descending onto the western slopes of the volcano. At least six domestic flights were canceled, a flight to Singapore was canceled, and two local flights were diverted due to the eruption. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) advised local governments to evacuate residents within a 6-kilometer radius of the volcano.
