More Than 100 Killed by Storms and Flooding in Pakistan and Afghanistan
Over the past few days, unusually heavy downpours have caused significant damage and claimed lives in Pakistan and Afghanistan. In Pakistan, at least 59 people have died due to rain-related incidents, including 33 children, 14 adults, and 12 women. The affected region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), has experienced heavy rains since April 12, leading to landslides and house collapses.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan has instructed Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs) to prepare for continued heavy rainfall and thunderstorms till April 29 across the country. The NDMA also urged relevant departments to maintain a state of vigilance and readiness to address any potential emergencies.
In neighboring Afghanistan, heavy rain and flooding have killed 66 people and wounded 36 others. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Afghanistan reported that more than 1,200 families have been affected by these weather events.
