Mark Carney Elected as Next Canadian Prime Minister

Mark Carney has been sworn in as Canada's 24th prime minister, succeeding Justin Trudeau. He leads the Liberal Party into an election to be held later this year. Carney has no prior elected experience and does not have a seat in the House of Commons. He received 85.9% of the vote in a contest against former finance minister Chrystia Freeland, former government house leader Karina Gould, and former member of parliament Frank Baylis.
