Mariah Carey's mother and sister die on the same day

Mariah Carey's mother, Patricia Carey, and sister, Alison Carey, both passed away on the same day. Patricia was 87 years old and was an opera singer, previously married to Alfred Roy Carey, Mariah's father. Mariah had spent time with her mother the week before her death and expressed her gratitude for that opportunity. The causes of death for Patricia and Alison were not immediately released. Mariah described her heart as "broken" over the loss of her mother and expressed sadness over her sister's passing as well.
