Magnitude 7.0 earthquake strikes off coast of eastern Russia

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake occurred off the eastern coast of Russia, specifically near the Kamchatka Peninsula. The epicentre was approximately 55 miles from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the capital of the region. The earthquake was felt along the coast, including in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The tremors were reported to have struck at a depth of nearly 50 kilometres.
