Madoff victims recover nearly all losses from settlement fund after decade-long payout process

The Madoff Victim Fund has made a final distribution of $131.4 million to over 23,000 victims of Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme, bringing the total amount repaid to 40,930 individuals and institutions to $4.3 billion. This final payout means that each victim will receive compensation covering nearly 94% of their proven losses. Madoff's scheme, which was uncovered in 2008, is considered one of the largest in US financial history, with estimated losses totaling $20 billion. Madoff died in prison in 2021.
