Macron Asks Attal to Stay On as Prime Minister for Time Being

French President Emmanuel Macron has asked Prime Minister Gabriel Attal to stay on temporarily after submitting his resignation following the country's snap general election. The election resulted in a hung parliament, with no single party securing an outright majority. The New Popular Front (NPF) emerged as the surprise winner, winning 182 seats in the 577-seat national assembly. Macron has decided to keep Attal in office despite Ensemble's loss of many seats on Sunday, citing the need for stability during the negotiations that will begin on Monday. The NPF argues that as the leading group in the next National Assembly, it has earned the right to choose a prime minister.
