Los Angeles Receives Brief Respite from Wildfires as Winds Weaken Significantly
ai generated text
Recent weather updates and fire situation reports indicate a mix of positive and negative developments. Onshore breezes are predicted to bring moisture over the next few days, leading to a significant improvement in the weather by tonight and tomorrow. Despite this, the Eaton Fire and Palisades Fire are still smoldering, and containment efforts have only made progress in containing the two largest fires. The fires have had devastating effects, claiming at least 25 lives and destroying over 12,000 structures. In the Los Angeles area, wind gusts and dry conditions will persist, but red flag warnings for extreme wildfire danger have expired. Wind speeds are forecasted to range from 25 to 40 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 64 km/h.
The winds are expected to switch to a more onshore flow late on Thursday and into Friday, bringing higher relative humidities and less chaotic wind flow, thus helping to mitigate the wildfire threat compared to recent days.
In the event that we have major rain, we do expect that all of the street areas and all the communities will be impacted by debris flows that could be hazardous to human health.
I am hoping that as the winds subside, we can see a light at the end of the tunnel and individuals can get their lives back on track to recovery and rebuild.
If your property burned down and you want to rebuild it exactly as it was before, then you shouldn't have to go through an elaborate, time-consuming permitting process.
I'm going to say at minimum, at least another week, and that's an estimate, but I believe it's going to be longer than that.
Infrared flights last night indicated there are still numerous hot spots burning within the fire footprint, and very close attention was paid to address any flare ups swiftly as to prevent any fire spread outside of the perimeter.
Please be assured that our firefighters continue to work 24/7 to achieve full containment of these wildfires as fast as we can.
So when I say one more week, that that does not include the entire evacuation order area. We're doing our best as we know that this is a challenge for our residents.
ATF will give you those answers, but it will be once we complete a thorough investigation.
We know everyone wants answers, and the community deserves answers.
The Los Angeles wildfires are devastating our city.
I am committing $1 million in partnership with @rewild's Rapid Response Program to support both urgent needs and post-fire recovery efforts.
