London Hospitals Hit by Cyber Attack

A recent cyber-attack is believed to have been carried out by a Russian group, targeting Synnovis, a supplier of medical testing services. As a result, several major London hospitals, including Guy's and St Thomas' Trust (GSTT), were forced to switch back to using paper records systems due to the disruption caused by the attack. The ransomware cyberattack led to the cancellation of various services and the diversion of patients. Additionally, the outage has resulted in the cancellation of operations and procedures involving blood transfusions at hospitals that rely on Synnovis for testing services.
A ransomware attack has affected several hospitals in central London, leading to the cancellation or redirection of some operations. The affected hospitals include King's College Hospital, Guy's and St Thomas', Royal Brompton, and Evelina London Children's Hospital. According to reports, Synnovis, an outsourced provider of lab services to NHS trusts across south-east London, was the target of the attack. While it is unclear whether other hospitals beyond those mentioned have been affected, some procedures have already been cancelled or redirected to other NHS providers as hospital bosses work to establish what can be carried out safely.
