Lithuanian President and Prime Minister Set for Election Runoff on May 26

Lithuania's presidential election has resulted in a second-round showdown between President Gitanas Nauseda and Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte. According to preliminary results, Nauseda leads with 44-46% of the vote, while Simonyte trails behind with 16-20%. The election was dominated by concerns over neighboring Russia, with all main candidates agreeing that Lithuania should increase its defense spending as a NATO and EU member. As no candidate secured more than 50% of the vote, the two top contenders will face off in a runoff election on May 26. Nauseda has expressed confidence in his chances of winning the second round.
