Lebanon's prime minister names new government after two-year caretaker cabinet
Lebanon's new Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, has announced a 24-member government, prioritizing financial reforms, reconstruction, and the implementation of a United Nations resolution to stabilize the border with Israel. The new government replaces a two-year period of caretaker authorities, which was marked by the weakening of Hezbollah's dominance. Salam has pledged to rebuild trust with the international community and to reform Lebanon's judiciary, as well as implement economic reforms to address the country's economic collapse. The government's formation comes after three weeks of talks with rival political parties in Lebanon, where government posts are allocated according to sectarian affiliation. The US has pushed back against Hezbollah's influence in the new government, as the formation of the cabinet was met with opposition from Washington.
I hope this will be a government of reform and salvation.
