Jimmy Carter's 6-day funeral procession begins in south Georgia as Americans pay their respects

The 39th President of the United States, Jimmy Carter, died on December 29 at the age of 100. The state funeral proceedings began on Saturday, January 4, at the Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia, with the Carter family in attendance. The funeral procession then traveled to Plains, Georgia, where it moved through downtown before stopping at Carter's childhood home. On January 7, the funeral procession will head to the US Navy Memorial in Washington, DC. The state funeral is scheduled to take place on Thursday at Washington National Cathedral, followed by an invitation-only service in Carter's hometown of Plains, Georgia.
