Jimmy Carter lies in state at US Capitol as Washington honors the former president

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, passed away on December 29, aged 100, in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. Following a first funeral service held in Atlanta on Saturday at the Carter Presidential Center, his body was transported to Washington D.C. via Special Air Mission 39, a motorcade then carried the casket to the US Capitol, where it will lie in state for two days prior to a national funeral later this week.
