Japan's elderly population reaches record high

According to government data, Japan has the highest proportion of elderly population among major countries, with 29.3% of its total population aged 65 or older, reaching an all-time high of 36.25 million people. This is significantly higher than other countries, including South Korea (19.3%) and China (14.7%). The elderly population in Japan is predominantly female, with around 21.93 million women aged 65 or older, compared to 15.72 million men, who account for 26.1% of the male population.
