Japan's H3 Rocket
Japan Successfully Launches Second H3 Rocket After Initial Failure
Japan successfully launched its next-generation H3 rocket into orbit. The rocket carried a dummy satellite and two functioning microsatellites. This was the third attempt for the H3 after previous failures in its debut flight last March and years of delays. The H3 is designed to be more economical than Japan's H-2A and H-2B rockets and is expected to replace them. JAXA and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries had planned the launch from the Tanegashima Space Center, which was delayed by two days due to adverse weather conditions. The successful deployment of the payloads marks a crucial redemption for the H3 team. The launch further strengthens Japan's space credentials following the historic moon landing of the Japanese Slim spacecraft last month. JAXA hopes that the lower costs associated with the H3 will help them win launch orders from global clients.
