Japan Sells Record-Breaking Tuna for $1.3 Million to Tokyo Sushi Restaurants
A bluefin tuna was sold for $1.3 million at the Tokyo fish market. The sale took place at a predawn auction and was caught off the coast of Aomori prefecture, Japan. The tuna weighed 276 kg (608 lb) and was purchased by the Onodera Group, which plans to serve it at Michelin-starred restaurants. The price per pound of the tuna was over $2,100. This sale is the second highest price ever paid at the New Year auction in Tokyo.
