Japan Requests Extradition of Anti-Whaling Activist Paul Watson from Denmark

Paul Watson, a 73-year-old anti-whaling activist and founder of Sea Shepherd and the Captain Paul Watson Foundation, is facing extradition to Japan after being arrested in Greenland on July 21 over a 2010 altercation with Japanese whaling ships. The charges against him include accomplice to assault and ship trespass, stemming from the alleged boarding of the Japanese whaling ship Shonan Maru 2 in the Southern Ocean by the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Japan has formally requested Watson's extradition to face these charges.
