Italian Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Femicide

Filippo Turetta was convicted of murdering Giulia Cecchettin, a 22-year-old woman who was stabbed more than 70 times and left in a ditch. Turetta, who was 21 at the time of the murder, admitted to planning the killing. The case drew widespread attention in Italy, contributing to a growing national concern over violence against women. According to Interior Ministry statistics, 51 women in Italy were killed by current or former romantic partners in the first 10 months of this year, with a total of 96 women killed in that same time period.
