Israel Approves Largest Land Seizure in West Bank in Three Decades
Israel has approved the largest seizure of land in the occupied West Bank in over three decades. According to Peace Now, a single appropriation of 12.7 square kilometers (nearly 5 square miles) of land in the Jordan Valley was recently approved, making it the largest since the 1993 Oslo accords. The Israeli military estimates that around 1.9 million people, or more than 80% of the population, will be affected by this move. The seized land is adjacent to a crucial corridor linking Israeli settlements along the Jordan border. Peace Now, an Israeli rights group monitoring settlement expansion, has criticized the decision.
