Israel Accused of Torturing Palestinian Detainees

A recent report by B'Tselem, an Israeli human rights organization, has found that Israel has conducted a systematic policy of prisoner abuse and torture since the start of the war in Gaza. The report, titled "Welcome to Hell", is based on testimony from 55 recently released Palestinian detainees. According to the report, the abuse includes severe beatings, sexual violence, sleep deprivation, and starvation.

A recent United Nations report has gathered testimony from Palestinians who were detained by Israeli authorities since the October 7 Hamas terror attacks on southern Israel. The report suggests that Israeli authorities may have inflicted "appalling acts" on detainees, including torture, and that many have been held without charge, access to a lawyer, and in "deplorable conditions". The report also alleges that dozens of detainees have died in custody. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, has called for the immediate release of the prisoners.
