Indonesians Head to the Polls for General Elections

Indonesia, the largest Muslim-majority nation in the world, is holding elections on February 14, 2023, to elect a new president and vice president. Over 204 million of the country's 270 million people registered to vote in this massive undertaking across an archipelago. The candidates entered a cooling-off period on Sunday leading up to election day on Wednesday. Two popular ex-governors, Ganjar Pranowo and Anies Baswedan, are contending for the leadership of Indonesia's Group of 20 economy of 270 million people. This democratic country, with over 100 million expected voters, some of whom will be voting for the first time, is at stake in this election as there are concerns about it potentially sliding back towards a dark past. The outcome of Indonesia's presidency race will be known after the elections on Wednesday.
