BRICS
Indonesia officially becomes BRICS member with Russia, China and other developing nations
Indonesia has officially become a full member of the BRICS bloc, a grouping of developing economies seen as a counterweight to the West. The country's candidacy was endorsed by BRICS leaders in August 2023 and was formally admitted as a member after the formation of its newly elected government last year.
BRICS members share a commitment to reforming global governance institutions, with Brazil stating that it "shares with the other members the will to reform the institutions of global governance". Indonesia has welcomed the announcement of its inclusion in the bloc, with Brazil's rotating presidency set to begin in 2025, followed by South Africa's entry in 2026.
