India's Modi meets Putin in first Russia visit since Ukraine offensive

Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin at his residence outside Moscow. The two leaders were seen hugging and petting horses together, as captured by Russian state news media footage. Additionally, Putin presented Modi with the prestigious "Order of St. Andrew" award, a high honor bestowed upon foreign dignitaries for their contributions to strengthening bilateral ties between Russia and India.

The bilateral visit this time is just a scheduling priority that we have undertaken. And that's what it is.
Whether it is war, conflict or a terrorist attack, any person who believes in humanity, is pained when there is loss of lives.
Looking forward to our talks tomorrow as well, which will surely go a long way in further cementing the bonds of friendship between India and Russia.
As a friend, I have also said for the brighter future of our next generation, peace is of utmost importance.
To visit a friend at home is, of course, a great joy.
I thank you for the attention you are paying to the most acute problems, including trying to find ways to resolve the Ukrainian crisis – above all by peaceful means, of course.
It is a huge disappointment and a devastating blow to peace efforts to see the leader of the world's largest democracy hug the world's most bloody criminal in Moscow on such a day.
We would urge India, as we do any country when it engages with Russia, to make clear that any resolution to the conflict in Ukraine needs to be one that respects the UN charter, that respects Ukraine's territorial integrity, Ukraine's sovereignty.
