ICJ Holds Hearings on Legality of Israel's Occupation of Palestinian Territories
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague will begin hearings to consider the legality of Israel's control over the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip. This advisory opinion was requested by the United Nations General Assembly. The hearings are not related to South Africa's accusation of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. At least 52 countries will present arguments on controversial Israeli policies regarding these territories. The ICJ is the UN's highest court and is set to examine the legal consequences of Israel's 57-year occupation of Palestinian territories during a week-long proceeding. These hearings come as Israel continues its military actions in Gaza.
