Hurricane Beryl makes landfall in Mexico as a Category 2 storm

Tropical Storm Beryl is expected to strengthen as it approaches the Texas coast late this weekend, potentially marking the first US landfall storm of the 2024 Atlantic season. The storm has already caused significant destruction across several Caribbean islands and Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, bringing strong winds, torrential rainfall, and a dangerous storm surge.

Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the Mexican coast, specifically in top tourist destinations such as Tulum and Cancun. The storm's core shifted over the Yucatan Peninsula, with maximum sustained winds decreasing to approximately 100mph (160km/h). A hurricane warning was issued for the coastal region from Puerto Costa Maya to Cancun, including Cozumel.
