Hong Kong authorities charge six individuals under new national security law
Six individuals, including five women and one man, have been arrested for allegedly posting seditious messages on social media. The charges are the first to be publicly laid under Hong Kong's national security law, which was introduced in response to widespread protests in 2019. According to officials, if found guilty, the group could face up to seven years in prison. One of the women arrested is Chow Hang-tung, a prominent barrister and human rights activist who is currently being held in prison. The ages of those arrested range from 37 to 65.
