Hegseth Confirmed as US Defence Secretary in Tiebreaking Senate Vote
Pete Hegseth, a former Fox News personality, has been confirmed as the United States Secretary of Defense. The Senate voted 51-49 in his favor, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote. This is the second time in history that a Cabinet nominee has needed a tie-breaker to be confirmed. Every Democratic senator voted against Hegseth's confirmation, with three Republican senators also opposing him.
