Sudanese Army and Rapid Support Forces Conflict
Heavy fighting erupts in Khartoum as Sudanese army launches major operation to retake control of the capital
Sudan's army has launched a major offensive against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the capital Khartoum, with air strikes and shelling reported in the city and its surrounding areas. The clashes began at dawn, with the army attempting to regain control of parts of the capital held by the RSF. The offensive marks the army's first major push in months, and is the largest artillery and airstrike operation in the capital since the early days of the 17-month conflict. Up to 150,000 people have been killed in the conflict, and over 10 million have been displaced, roughly a fifth of the population.
