Hamas, Qatari delegations in Egypt to discuss Gaza truce

In an effort to broker a ceasefire, Hamas officials have arrived in Cairo for talks with Israeli representatives. However, an Israeli official downplayed prospects for a full end to the war. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that if Hamas is willing to accept a ceasefire, it should be a "no-brainer." A new proposal reportedly agreed upon by Israel involves halting fighting for 40 days and exchanging hostages for Palestinian prisoners. Egypt and US mediators have reported signs of compromise in recent days.
