Israel-Palestine Conflict
Hamas reacts positively to Biden's new Gaza ceasefire proposal
In an effort to bring a permanent ceasefire to the region, President Biden has outlined a three-phase proposal from Israel. The plan involves a first phase of immediate ceasefire, followed by a second phase where Hamas and Israel would negotiate terms for a permanent end to hostilities, and finally a third phase that includes a major reconstruction plan for Gaza.
Hamas has reportedly expressed a positive view of the contents of Biden's proposal, which offers a permanent ceasefire in exchange for the release of all hostages and long-term reconstruction of the devastated enclave. However, it is unclear whether Hamas will accept the deal, as President Biden has urged them to do so, stating that it is the best way to end the deadly conflict.
It is worth noting that some sources suggest that Israel has also offered a comprehensive new proposal, which includes a road map to an enduring ceasefire and the release of all hostages. This proposal was reportedly transmitted by Qatar to Hamas.
