Gangs in Haiti
Haiti gang kills nearly 200 in violence against voodoo community
The violence in Haiti, which resulted in the deaths of at least 184 people, was reportedly carried out by a gang leader as an act of revenge against voodoo practitioners. The gang leader, Micanor Altes, believed that the practitioners were responsible for his son's fatal illness and sought retribution. The violence occurred in the Cité Soleil area of Port-au-Prince, with some sources suggesting that it was also carried out in other locations, including the Wharf Jérémie neighborhood.
