Mass Coral Bleaching Crisis

Great Barrier Reef Experiences Record-Breaking Coral Bleaching Event

According to multiple reports, there is ongoing coral bleaching in the Great Barrier Reef with approximately 730 out of over 1,000 reefs affected. This marks the fifth mass bleaching event for the reef in the last eight years. The cause of this phenomenon is attributed to abnormally high ocean temperatures, leading to the fourth recorded mass bleaching event globally. The Great Barrier Reef is known to host over 600 types of coral and 1,625 fish species.
