Google Signs Nuclear Deal to Power AI Data Centres

Google has signed a deal to purchase energy from a fleet of small nuclear reactors to power its data centers. This move aims to provide a low-carbon solution to the large volumes of electricity required by data centers. The deal includes purchasing 500 megawatts of power from six to seven reactors, but the exact location of the plants is not specified. According to estimates, data center power use in the US is expected to triple between 2023 and 2030. This development follows Microsoft's previous agreement to take energy from Three Mile Island for the first time in five years. The use of nuclear energy is being explored by technology firms to meet the electricity demands of their large data centers, which drive AI operations.
