Global Fertility Rate Shrinking: Major Study Warns of Continuous Decline by End of Century
According to various reports, the fertility rate in half of all nations is currently insufficient to maintain their population sizes. By the year 2050, it is projected that the population of three-quarters of all countries will be decreasing. The exceptions are Samoa, Somalia, Tonga, Niger, Chad, and Tajikistan, which are expected to have fertility rates exceeding the replacement level of 2.1 births per female. Additionally, Sub-Saharan Africa is projected to account for approximately half of all children born worldwide by the year 2100. By the end of this century, populations in 198 out of 204 countries are predicted to be shrinking based on current fertility trends. There seems to be a consensus among these articles regarding the global demographic shift towards population decline, with notable exceptions being certain African countries.
