Global Executions Reach Highest Level Since 2015, According to Amnesty Report
According to Amnesty International, the number of executions worldwide in 2023 reached its highest level since 2015, with a total of 1,153 recorded executions. This represents a 30% increase from 2022. Iran was responsible for at least 853 of these executions, compared to 576 in 2022. The organization notes that the figures exclude China, which is believed to execute thousands of people annually.
