Immigration in the Mediterranean Sea
Girl rescued after surviving 3 days in Mediterranean clinging to inflatable tubes
The articles describe the rescue of an 11-year-old girl from Sierra Leone who was traveling with 44 other migrants in a rickety boat that set off from Tunisia. The boat sank and all other migrants are presumed dead. The girl survived by clinging to tyre inner tubes and was rescued by chance by a yacht, the Compass Collective, that was on its way to another emergency. The yacht's captain spotted the girl and was able to rescue her 14 miles off the Italian island of Lampedusa.
