Hair Discrimination
French parliament backs bill to stop hair discrimination
France's National Assembly has approved a bill prohibiting workplace discrimination based on hair texture. The legislation targets discrimination against individuals based on the style, color, length, or texture of their hair. Supporters of the bill, including MP Olivier Serva from the LIOT group, claim it primarily affects Black women who choose to wear their hair naturally. This issue has gained attention in about 20 US states, where similar laws have been enacted to address hair discrimination as an expression of racism. The bill still needs to be debated in the conservative-led Senate for further approval.
