French former surgeon admits to vast majority of child sexual abuse cases in historic trial

Joel Le Scouarnec, a 74-year-old French digestive surgery specialist, is accused of committing 300 acts of aggravated rape and sexual assault against 299 victims, mostly minors. He has admitted responsibility for the majority of the charges, which span over 25 years. Le Scouarnec has a prior conviction for possessing child pornography in 2005. The trial, considered the largest pedophilia case in French history, is taking place in Vannes, Brittany, where he faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
