1982 Murder of two diplomats in Paris
French court orders release of Lebanese militant Georges Abdallah held since 1984
Georges Ibrahim Abdallah, a Lebanese man, was convicted in 1987 of murdering two foreign diplomats, Charles Ray, a US citizen, and Yacov Barsimant, an Israeli diplomat, in 1982. He was sentenced to life imprisonment. However, a French court has now ordered his release, citing that he will be freed on December 6, on the condition that he leaves France. This decision is subject to an appeal by the prosecution.
