Synagogue Blast in La Grande-Motte
French authorities open terror probe after explosion injures police officer near southern synagogue
On Saturday, two cars parked at the Beth Yaacov synagogue complex in southern France were set ablaze, with a propane gas tank in one of the vehicles detonating and injuring a police officer. Five people, including the rabbi, were unharmed. The incident is being investigated as an attempted terrorist murder by France's specialist antiterrorism prosecutor. A man caught on CCTV setting fire to the vehicles was carrying a Palestinian flag and possibly a handgun. The attack is being treated as a potential terror attack by police, and security around Jewish sites has been tightened. The suspect is still at large. French President Emmanuel Macron has called the incident a "terrorist act" and stated that the fight against antisemitism is a constant battle.
