French Rugby Players Charged with Aggravated Rape in Argentina

Two French rugby players, Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou, aged 20 and 21 respectively, have been charged with aggravated rape of a 39-year-old Argentinian woman. The alleged assault took place last Sunday after the French team's test match against the Argentinian Pumas in Mendoza. According to prosecutors, the pair chose not to testify at their first court appearance, denying allegations that they raped the woman multiple times and beat her in a hotel room. Initially charged with sexual assault, the charges have now been upgraded to aggravated rape. The players were transferred 1,000km from their original location to Mendoza for their court appearance. A request for them to be placed under house arrest is pending resolution.
