French Foreign Minister Confirms Welcome for Israeli Athletes at 2024 Paris Olympics
The Israeli delegation is set to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, despite earlier statements from Thomas Portes suggesting that Israeli athletes were not welcome. French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné has welcomed the Israeli delegation and assured their security. The Israeli Olympic Committee President Yael Arad views their participation as a "victory" after overcoming challenges to attend the Games. French President Emmanuel Macron has also explicitly stated that "Israeli athletes are welcome", aiming to counter calls from France, Palestine, and Iran against Israel's participation. This comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Palestine, with over 39,000 Palestinians killed in an Israeli offensive targeting the Gaza Strip.
We will ensure the security of the delegation.
I've always said: It's the International Olympic Committee [IOC] that will decide, and we don't play politics with the Games.
