France raises terror alert to highest level following Moscow attack claimed by IS group

Emmanuel Macron, the French President, held an emergency security meeting in response to the Moscow subway bombing that left at least 137 people dead. The Islamic State (IS) group's Afghan affiliate has taken responsibility for the attack. France has previously experienced deadly attacks, such as the Bataclan theatre massacre, and its troops have engaged with Islamic extremists in the Middle East and Africa. Gabriel Attal, a French government spokesperson, stated that the decision to increase security was made due to IS's claim of responsibility and the ongoing threats against France. The heightened security measures come months before Paris hosts the Olympic Games.
