France backs Moroccan claim over disputed Western Sahara

French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that a proposal to make Western Sahara an autonomous region of Morocco is the only viable solution to the long-standing conflict. This stance is in line with the views of most of France's Western allies, who have already supported Morocco's plan. However, the Polisario Front, which advocates for Western Sahara's independence, disagrees with this approach and insists that the territory should be free from Moroccan control. Algeria has taken a strong stance against France's position, withdrawing its ambassador from France in protest.
