Russia-Ukraine War
France accuses Russia of disinformation campaign against Ukraine's allies
According to French foreign ministry officials, Russia has intensified its efforts in manipulating information through social media platforms. They described the scope and structure of these campaigns as massive and complex. One example given was an account on X, supposedly belonging to a journalist named Jules Vincent, which published a lengthy written and audio message. However, it was revealed that Vincent doesn't exist, speaks with an unidentified accent, and falsely claimed to be part of an association of freelance journalists. After the publication of this message, it was picked up by numerous sites known for sharing Russian disinformation. Furthermore, France's Viginum agency reported that Russia is preparing for a new wave of online manipulation through at least 193 pro-Russian propaganda sites. The majority of the disinformation spread via social media focuses on conspiracy theories.
