Forty people killed in migrant boat fire off Haiti's coast
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reports that a boat carrying over 80 migrants from Haiti caught fire off the coast of Haiti earlier this week. The vessel departed from Fort Saint-Michel in Haiti's north and was headed towards Turks and Caicos, according to some sources. However, another article suggests that the destination was not specified.
The incident resulted in at least 40 fatalities, with 41 survivors rescued by Haiti's Coast Guard. The cause of the fire is attributed to passengers using matches to light candles during a ritual on board.
